Dedicated to supporting and empowering homeschooled students and their families
Valley Oak Charter was established in 2002 as an outgrowth of an Ojai Unified School District program designed to reach out to homeschooling families living in the Ojai Valley
Valley Oak Charter is a parent participation program
Parents assist directly in support of the program in a variety of ways, including attending meetings, serving on school committees, participating in work days and assisting in enrichment classes and activities.

How We Learn
Learning takes place constantly throughout life and in all settings. A strong, lifelong learner is one who has opportunities to pursue their own interests and make choices about their own activities and goals.
Learning Partners
As a homeschool program, parents are able to tailor their child’s education to meet the child’s own interests and abilities. Children are free to move at their own pace instead of that set by the school or grade-level averages.
Our Story
VOC provides social opportunities, enrichment activities, academic resources, and certificated teachers who serve as resources. We support families to maintain the responsibility for their children’s education.
support and guidance
VOC encourages family involvement and individual responsibility.
Our program provides homeschooling and parenting support, funding for curriculum materials, and cooperative work and play in a multi-age setting. VOC parents meet several times a year to review, plan, and address concerns of the program. Parents, as a group, have many organizational functions, including serving on school committees, assisting in the classroom, and providing support for field trips and special activities.

Let’s Grow Together
Parents who have effectively homeschooled their children for several years will often enroll them at VOC for a year or so as a transition into a District school. Others simply prefer the hybrid program offered at VOC, and benefit from the support given by the school and its community of homeschooling families.
